We warmly invite medical students to join us in the Department of Diagnostic Imaging for two week electives. Elective opportunities are available at the Peter Lougheed Centre, where specialist vascular and MSK imaging/procedures are performed, the Rockyview General Hospital, home to the Southern Alberta Institute of Urology, and Foothills Medical Centre.
If you have a specific interest in a Radiology residency, we recommend an elective at the Foothills Medical Centre. This is one of Canada’s largest hospitals and the primary location in which resident education is based. An elective here provides experience in the core modalities of Emergency Radiology, Body CT, Neuro CT, Chest, GI/GU/Fluoroscopy, Ultrasound, and Mammography. In addition, there are opportunities to experience Interventional Radiology (IR), Nuclear Medicine and Body/Neuro MRI. Ultimately, regardless of the site, the elective promises to familiarize students with diagnostic imaging via exposure to the modalities of CT, MRI, ultrasound, plain film, and IR.
